5 New Features of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro

Apple has launched its flagship duo, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, featuring a slew of new features. Apple CEO Tim Cook referred to this year’s lineup as the “most Pro iPhone ever.”

While the overall design language remains similar to its predecessors, there are several enhancements in terms of materials, hardware specifications, and functionality.

Here are 5 new features on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, as summarized by CNBC Indonesia from the official Apple livestream on YouTube on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

USB-C Port on the iPhone 15
Just like the regular iPhone 15 and Plus models, the Pro series has also replaced the Lightning port with USB-C. However, the Pro variants use the USB 3.0 standard, which can transfer data at speeds of up to 10Gbps. This capability makes it easier to transfer large-sized data, such as ProRAW photos in HEIF format from the iPhone to a MacBook.

Titanium Body on the iPhone 15 Pro
As previously rumored, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are made from grade 5 titanium, making them lighter in weight. The iPhone 15 Pro weighs 187 grams, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs 221 grams. For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro weighed 206 grams, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighed 240 grams. Both have similar screen sizes to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, at 6.1 and 6.7 inches.

Apple claims that this material is more durable than the stainless steel used in the previous series, as the same titanium is used in rovers exploring Mars in space.

A17 Pro Bionic Processor on the iPhone 15
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are the first smartphones on the market to feature a 3nm chip. Both models are powered by the A17 Pro Bionic chip, Apple’s own creation. On paper, this chip features a 6-core CPU, with 2 cores for performance and 4 cores for efficiency. It also includes a 6-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, enhancing AI and machine learning tasks. In practice, this chip improves gaming experiences, enhances audio-visual content enjoyment, and increases battery life by up to 35%.

Action Button on the iPhone 15
Confirming the circulating rumors, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max now feature an ‘Action Button’ that replaces the ‘Mute’ button. The sensation is described as pressing a button without actually pressing it, similar to the Action Button on the Apple Watch. Its functionality is broader, as pressure gestures can determine the command you want to give, such as opening a translation app, activating the camera, accessing voice memos, turning off alarms, and more.

Periscope Camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max
Among all the enhancements, the camera components didn’t receive significant attention during the iPhone’s launch this time. The most significant change is the introduction of a periscope camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max with a sensor 25% larger than its predecessor. This camera allows for up to 5x zoom with a focal length of 120mm.

In general, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have a primary 48MP camera (f/1.8, OIS, PDAF), a secondary 13MP ultrawide camera (f/2.2), and a 12MP telephoto camera (f/2.8). Some camera features include Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, Night Mode, Portrait Mode, and the ability to record 4k video at 60fps.

Those are some of the new features of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. In the United States, the starting prices are $999 for the iPhone 15 Pro and $1,199 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Let’s wait and see!
