César Conde to be Honored with 2023 Hispanic Heritage Media Award as President of NBCUniversal News Group

César Conde, the president of NBCUniversal News Group, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious “2023 Hispanic Heritage Media Award.” The announcement was made by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF), an organization dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the contributions of Hispanic individuals. Conde leads NBCUniversal News Group, which includes major news organizations such as NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC News NOW, Telemundo Enterprises, and NBCUniversal Local.

The recognition will take place during the 36th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards, scheduled for Thursday, September 7th at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The event will be nationally broadcasted by PBS on Friday, September 29th.

HHF President and CEO, Antonio Tijerino, expressed his admiration for Conde, describing him as a remarkable leader who understands the valuable contributions of Latinos to the media industry. Conde joins other accomplished individuals like multiple Grammy/Latin Grammy winners Café Tacvba, Grammy Award nominee Omar Apollo, and the fast-growing Mexican-American food brand Siete Family Foods, as honorees for this year’s Heritage Awards.

Tijerino further stated his excitement to acknowledge Conde’s bold vision and impactful actions, which have left a lasting imprint on both the journalism profession and the media industry as a whole. Under Conde’s leadership, NBCUniversal News Group has solidified its position as the most-watched news organization in the U.S., reaching more than seven out of ten adults each month.

Conde’s leadership has also contributed to the company’s success across various platforms, with notable investments in digital news and streaming services. The NBC News NOW streaming network, for instance, has experienced exceptional growth and has become the fastest-growing streaming news network in the country.

Beyond his achievements in the media industry, Conde has founded the NBCU Academy, an acclaimed journalism training program that collaborates with 45 higher education institutions nationwide. This initiative aims to improve diversity in the journalism profession by promoting gender, racial, geographic, socioeconomic, and ideological inclusivity.

Prior to his role at NBCUniversal, Conde served in various notable positions within the industry, including President of Univision Networks and President of NBCU International Group and Telemundo Enterprises. He has also held positions in government, such as serving as a member of the White House for Secretary of State Colin L. Powell.

Conde’s extensive background, combined with his commitment to promoting diversity and excellence, has earned him recognition and respect in multiple domains. He currently sits on the boards of both Walmart and PepsiCo and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Additionally, he serves as a trustee of the Aspen Institute and a board member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Conde is an alumnus of Harvard University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

The Hispanic Heritage Awards hold great significance as they were established by the White House to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States. Supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions, these awards are considered one of the highest honors bestowed by Latinos for Latinos.
