China Responds to Hamas-Israel Conflict, Xi Jinping Calls for This

China has responded to the recent tensions between Hamas, Palestine, and Israel. President Xi Jinping’s nation even advocates for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as a solution for peace.

“We call on all relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, and promptly end hostilities to protect civilians and prevent the situation from deteriorating,” the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, as quoted by CNBC International on Monday, October 9, 2023.

“The fundamental way out of this conflict lies in the implementation of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” they emphasized.

China’s statement is not without a basis. China has been playing a role in mediating the Israel-Palestine tensions.

“The international community needs to act with greater urgency, increase input on the Palestine issue, facilitate the resumption of peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel, and find ways to achieve lasting peace,” China added.

“China will continue to work tirelessly with the international community to achieve these goals,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, took a firm stance on the ongoing conflict. He condemned all violence and attacks on civilians.

Previously, the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on Saturday. Hamas initiated a multi-pronged attack around 6:30 AM local time with thousands of rockets aimed at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, some of which bypassed the Iron Dome defense system and hit buildings.

Exchange of fire continued throughout the day between Israeli forces and hundreds of Hamas militants in at least 22 locations in Israel. The situation became chaotic as many civilians became involved in the crossfire.

Hamas had previously released images of several captured Israeli citizens. Israeli Military Spokesperson Daniel Hagari confirmed that “there are soldiers and civilians who have been kidnapped.”

Hamas Spokesperson Khaled Qadomi told Al Jazeera that the group conducted its military operation in response to the injustices faced by the Palestinian people over several decades. Additionally, Israel was known to have carried out several attacks in the Al-Aqsa Mosque area, a sacred site for Muslims.

“We want the international community to stop the atrocities in Gaza against the Palestinian people, our sacred places like Al-Aqsa. These are the reasons behind the start of this battle,” he said.

As of now, there are approximately 1,100 casualties in their second war, with around 700 from Israel and about 400 from Palestinian civilians.
