Exclusive: Keith Urban Teases New Duet and Addresses Lainey Wilson Speculation

Country superstar Keith Urban is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated new album, which will feature a special duet that he has been excited to share with fans for over a year.

Urban made an appearance at the 2024 CMT Music Awards at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, where he sat down for an interview with ET’s Cassie DiLaura to discuss his upcoming music.

“So, ‘Straight Line’ was the first single, ‘Messed Up as Me’ just came out in February, and we have another single coming out next month — that’s a duet,” Urban revealed. “I’m so excited to finally release that.”

When asked about speculation that the duet may be with country singer Lainey Wilson, Urban played coy, saying, “You just never know!”

“We recorded it last summer, and I’ve been sitting on it ever since, so I’m ready for it to be out there, as well as the album later this year,” Urban shared. He also admitted that it’s been frustrating to keep quiet about projects he’s been working on.

Urban was thrilled to perform “Straight Line” at the CMT Music Awards and promised fans a big, loud, rowdy performance of the song that they had never heard live before.

After his electrifying performance at the show, Urban spoke with ET backstage and expressed his excitement at how well-received the song was, considering it was his first time performing it live.

“The crowd’s great! I mean, they don’t know that song yet, so to react that way was amazing,” Urban expressed.

He also dropped a hint about his upcoming duet, revealing that his mystery collaborator was “very much in the building.” However, with a multitude of country singers in attendance, it was difficult to narrow down the possibilities.

Throughout his illustrious career, Urban has won a total of nine CMT Music Awards. This year’s show featured other top performers such as Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Sugarland, Cody Johnson, Dasha, and more. Kelsea Ballerini hosted the show and also took the stage for a performance.

The 2024 CMT Music Awards, hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, took place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, April 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The show aired on CBS and was available for live streaming and on-demand viewing via Paramount+.

With anticipation building for Keith Urban’s new album and the release of his highly-anticipated duet, fans are eagerly awaiting what the country crooner has in store next. Stay tuned for more updates on Urban’s music and performances.
