Lynn Yamada Davis, known for her popular TikTok cooking show ‘Cooking With Lynja,’ passes away at 67

Lynne Yamada Davis, the popular social media influencer known for her TikTok account, Cooking with Lynja, has tragically passed away at the age of 87. This news was confirmed by her son, Tim Davis, who shared a heartfelt video on her account to announce her passing and to honor her memory.

In the emotional video, Tim shared cherished memories and photographs from Lynne’s life, showcasing her experiences as a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, her participation in marathons, and her adventurous travels where she even rode a camel in the United Arab Emirates. Tim expressed his deep love for his mother and called her the best mom and the best friend anyone could ask for.

According to an obituary in the New York Times, Lynne passed away on January 1st at the Riverview Medical Center in New Jersey after battling esophageal cancer. Tim also spoke with the Times, sharing that the Cooking with Lynja account was a joint project he started with his mother as a way to refine his skills in cinematography. He revealed that Lynne had requested him to continue posting the videos they had edited together after her passing, but he would eventually stop once all the existing material had been shared.

Lynne’s accomplishments and contributions to the digital world were celebrated in 2022 when she was featured on Forbes’ “50 over 50” list. She and Tim were also honored with a Streamy Award for editing and food, bringing her joy and pride in her work.

The mother-son duo was last seen attending the 2023 Streamy Awards in Los Angeles and then at the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival’s FoodieCon presented by Instagram. The success of Cooking with Lynja led to an impressive following of nearly 10 million subscribers on TikTok and over 2 million on Instagram, solidifying her influence and impact across various social media platforms.

Tim concluded his message by sharing his favorite picture of Lynne, describing her as “intelligent and elegant.” He expressed gratitude for the support and love they received over the years, especially in Lynne’s final moments.

Lynne’s battle with cancer began in 2019 when she was diagnosed with throat cancer, and later with esophageal cancer in 2021. She is survived by her daughter, Hannah, sons Tim and Sean Davis, as well as her second husband, Keith Davis. Lynne also leaves behind another daughter, Becky Steinberg, from her first marriage, and two siblings, Jay Yamada and Karen Dolce Yamada. She is also survived by two grandchildren.
