Mail carrier caught speeding in a Ford Mustang and colliding with USPS van at 105 MPH

Speeding USPS Employee Caught Racing Mustang in Ohio

A USPS postal worker in Sandusky County, Ohio, was recently caught racing a Ford Mustang in his Mercedes Metris pickup truck at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The incident was captured on newly released body camera footage and reported by WTVG News.

The traffic stop took place on April 21 on Highway 20 in Fremont, Ohio, on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The officer initially noticed the speeding Mustang, but before he could pursue it, the USPS-branded Metris van zoomed past him at 105 mph, prompting him to pull over the driver.

In the footage, the USPS employee expressed surprise at how fast he was going, admitting, “I didn’t realize it was going that fast.” When questioned about his actions, he could only respond with regret, saying, “I mean, I shouldn’t have done it,” and claiming not to know the driver of the Mustang involved in the race.

While the exact year and model of the Mustang are unknown, the Metris involved in the incident was likely equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 208 horsepower and 258 foot-pounds of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Although the top speed of the Metris is not readily available, some owners have reported reaching speeds slightly over 100 mph, indicating that the vehicle was pushed to its limits in the race.

Public records indicate that the case has been closed, with the driver receiving a $50 fine for speeding. Had the driver been convicted of street racing, Ohio State Law classifies it as a first-degree misdemeanor, potentially resulting in a 30-day to three-year license suspension, as well as fines and vehicle seizure.

The response from the USPS regarding the incident remains undisclosed, with a spokesperson stating that the matter is under investigation, and no further comments can be made on a personnel matter at this time.

The reckless behavior of the USPS employee highlights the dangers of speeding and street racing, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving and following traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.
