Manchester United are confirmed to be bringing in Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.

The Manchester United left-back transfer saga is set to come to an end. The Red Devils are confirmed to be bringing in Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.

Manchester United has been on the hunt for a new left-back on the transfer deadline day. They needed reinforcements because Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been sidelined for a considerable period due to injuries.

So far, several left-backs have been linked to MU. However, it’s reported that the Red Devils have secured the transfer they wanted.

The Athletic claims that Manchester United’s new left-back hails from North London. They have agreed to secure the services of Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham.

According to the report, Manchester United and Tottenham have already agreed on the transfer of Reguilon.

The Spanish national team defender will be loaned for one season. However, there is a clause that allows MU to shorten his loan period in January 2024.

Additionally, MU is reported not to have to pay any loan fees for the player, but they will cover his entire salary.

According to the report, Reguilon’s transfer to MU is now confirmed.

MU and Tottenham have completed the administrative processes for this transfer. Furthermore, Reguilon has signed his contract with MU.

So, in a matter of hours, this transfer will be officially announced to the public.

Reguilon will be Manchester United’s second signing on the transfer deadline day.

The Red Devils have already completed the transfer of Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce a few hours ago.

Manchester United is about to secure their fourth signing in the summer 2023 transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon is predicted to join MU through a loan deal after undergoing a medical examination with the Old Trafford club nearing the close of the transfer window.

As known, Erik ten Hag indeed needs additional reinforcements in the left-back position this season. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, who usually occupy that position, have been sidelined due to injuries, preventing them from strengthening MU.

There were several candidates initially considered by the Red Devils. Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Marcos Alonso (Barcelona), and Sergio Reguilon (Tottenham Hotspur) were on Manchester United’s radar.

Unfortunately, MU received bad news regarding the first two names. Marcos Alonso was reported to be unwilling to return to the Premier League because he still wanted to fight for his place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

Meanwhile, concerning Cucurella, Daily Mail reported that Manchester United’s negotiations with Chelsea had come to a halt. The player was priced at a loan fee of £7 million by the West London club.

The Blues’ manager, Mauricio Pochettino, also issued a statement implying that they were reluctant to let go of Cucurella because the player still had a role in Chelsea’s plans for the season.

As a result of this situation, Manchester United has shifted its focus to the third target, Sergio Reguilon. The Tottenham Hotspur player became the new name potentially joining the Red Devils in the remaining days of the summer 2023 transfer window.

Reguilon himself is said to have been given permission to undergo a medical examination with the Old Trafford club. As a result, Erik ten Hag’s club is getting closer to securing its fourth signing in this transfer window.

However, it should be noted that Reguilon’s presence at MU will not be permanent. Daily Mail mentioned that the Red Devils have included a release clause in the player’s contract that would allow him to return to North London once Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia recover from their injuries.

The news of Reguilon’s arrival at MU has also been confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. In his tweet on Friday (1/9/2023) morning, he revealed that the player’s medical examination is expected to be completed soon.

“Sergio Reguilon will be a new Manchester United player later this morning; the medical is expected to be completed tonight,” he wrote in his tweet.

Sergio Reguilon initially joined Tottenham Hotspur after leaving Real Madrid in 2020. He briefly returned to La Liga after spending a loan spell at Atletico Madrid last season.

During his time with Tottenham Hotspur, Reguilon made 67 appearances in all competitions. He also contributed with 2 goals and 9 assists during his time with the North London club.
