Mason Mount Excited to Join Manchester United and Pursue Silverware Under Ten Hag

Mason Mount is eagerly anticipating his time at Old Trafford as he embarks on a new challenge with Manchester United, leaving behind his childhood club, Chelsea.

The 24-year-old English midfielder has signed a five-year contract, with the option for an additional 12 months, following his departure from Chelsea, where he spent 18 years.

Mount expressed his feelings about the move, stating, “Leaving the club where you grew up is never easy, but joining United presents an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I am aware of the strength of the squad I am joining, and I am eagerly looking forward to contributing to this group’s pursuit of major trophies.”

He further acknowledged the progress made by United under the management of Erik ten Hag, saying, “After meeting the manager and discussing his plans, I am incredibly excited and ready to embrace the hard work expected of me here. I am highly ambitious and understand the incredible feeling of winning major trophies and the effort required to achieve that. I am fully committed to experiencing that once again at United.”

Mount’s journey began at Chelsea at the age of six in 2005, and he went on to make 195 senior appearances, scoring 33 goals across all competitions. During his time at Chelsea, he secured victories in the UEFA Champions League in the 2020-21 season, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the following season.

John Murtough, United’s football director, expressed his delight in finalizing the deal, stating, “Mason is an exceptionally intelligent footballer with an array of fantastic technical qualities. We have admired his talent for a long time and are thrilled that he has chosen to take the next steps in his career here. His style of play and attributes align perfectly with our squad, and we believe he will continue to improve. Mason is a world-class player who also has the ability to elevate the performance of those around him. We were particularly impressed by his strong desire to join United and his hunger for further success.”

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly, alongside co-controlling owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano, expressed their gratitude towards Mason Mount, describing him as a consummate professional and a beloved figure at the club. They extended their thanks for his contributions throughout his time at Chelsea.
