Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus’ second-half goals secured a 2-0 win for West Ham against Manchester United in the Premier League’s early Saturday game, briefly placing the Hammers in the top six.
Bowen found the net in the 72nd minute after a delightful exchange with Lucas Paqueta. Paqueta, six minutes later, assisted Kudus in settling the game with a sharp finish.
Recovering from a challenging 5-1 defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup midweek, West Ham now occupies the sixth spot with 30 points. Manchester United, struggling to score in its last four games across all competitions, drops to eighth place with 28 points.
The first half lacked quality, and the best chance came to Alejandro Garnacho in the 35th minute. However, the winger lost his balance, shooting straight at Alphonse Areola.
West Ham had a close call immediately afterward, with a dangerous cross from Bowen forcing Jonny Evans into a smart block as the first half ended with increased urgency.
Bowen nearly opened the scoring shortly after the break with a well-placed header from a James Ward-Prowse corner, but his attempt was expertly saved by Onana.
However, the winger eventually broke the deadlock with his 11th league goal of the season, smoothly controlling Paqueta’s pass before Onana’s save rebounded off the forward and into the net.
Paqueta capitalized on Kobbie Mainoo’s midfield mistake to set up Kudus, who confidently fired past Onana, securing all three points for the hosts.
This defeat, the eighth in the league for United, adds more pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, who faced taunts from jubilant West Ham fans before the final whistle.
