Steven Mendoza Murdered in Robbery by Four Teenagers

Steven Mendoza was shot and killed during a violent robbery at the convenience store where he worked in Houston, Texas. The authorities have arrested four individuals responsible for the brutal death of the hardworking Hispanic father of three. The suspects, all minors, are currently in custody at the Harris County jail.

Mendoza, known affectionately as ‘Fluffy’ by his family, friends, and customers, was working the night shift to support his family. The tragic incident occurred when four teenagers entered the store pretending to be customers, only to brandish weapons and demand money from the cash register. They then shot Mendoza at close range before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Despite the heinous crime, the community in Houston has been shocked by the ages of the perpetrators and the level of violence involved. The four minors, facing charges of capital murder, may potentially face the death penalty if found guilty under Texas law.

Mendoza’s brother, Roberto, has set up a GoFundMe account to seek assistance for the family in the wake of the devastating loss. Describing his brother as loyal, hardworking, kind, proud, bold, and brave, Roberto mourns the premature death of Steven and highlights his courageous efforts to defend himself during the attack.

The arrest of the suspects was made possible thanks to surveillance footage, which enabled the Houston Police Department to identify the vehicle used in the escape. The arrest announcement was made on April 15, 2024, following weeks of investigation into the case.

The senseless killing of Steven Mendoza has left his wife and children, including one child the same age as the perpetrators, without their provider. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the impact of violent crime on families and communities, as they mourn the loss of a beloved member taken too soon.
