Ford introduces new fourth-generation Coyote V8 engine with more power

Ford has recently unveiled its latest iteration of the Coyote V8 engine, boasting more power than ever before. The fourth-generation Coyote V8, showcased in the 2024 Ford Mustang GT, delivers an impressive 480 horsepower at 7,150 rpm and 415 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 rpm. This power upgrade has been made possible by incorporating direct and port fuel injection, dual throttle bodies, high-flow heads, independently variable cam timing, and a 12:1 compression ratio.

Compared to the previous generation, known as the “Aluminator” crate engine, the new Gen 4 Coyote engine offers superior performance. The Aluminator engine peaked at 460 hp with a lower 9.5:1 compression ratio, generating 420 lb-ft of torque. Although both engines are capable of handling forced induction, the Gen 4 Coyote engine distinguishes itself with its increased power output.

Despite its enhanced performance, the fourth-generation Coyote V8 comes at a more affordable price point. Priced at $11,500, it is $3,080 cheaper than the Aluminator engine. The new engine manages to reduce costs by omitting high-end components like forged Mahle pistons in favor of hypereutectic aluminum ones. However, it still retains essential features such as cross-bolt main caps and plasma-transferred arc spray skins.

Enthusiasts will have the option to choose between a manual transmission (Part No. M-6007-M50D) or a 10R80 automatic transmission (Part No. M-6007-M50DAUTO) for the new Coyote V8. Additionally, a single throttle body configuration (Part No. M-6007-M50H) is available for those concerned about packaging constraints in their project cars. This configuration delivers identical power figures as the Aluminator Gen 3: 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, at the same cost as the dual throttle body option.

Ford has announced that the new Coyote V8 engines will begin shipping in June and are currently available for pre-order. Control packages for the Gen 4 Coyote engine will also be released this summer.
