Nio ET7 Traveling Over 1000km on a Single Charge

A significant breakthrough in solid-state battery technology has resulted in a Nio electric sedan, with a huge battery, traveling more than 1,000 km in China.

The Chinese electric car specialist Nio has unveiled a new version of its Tesla Model S-sized ET7 sedan, which traveled more than 1,000 km on a single charge, under specific conditions, with the company’s CEO at the wheel.

The new ET7 has been equipped with a 150 kWh battery, equivalent to two and a half Tesla Model Y RWD, now with semi-solid state chemistry, allowing it to have a higher energy density than a similarly sized lithium-ion battery.

Nio had previously claimed that the ET7’s 150 kWh battery could deliver a lab-tested driving range of more than 1,000 km on China’s lenient NEDC cycle.

To prove the claim, Nio CEO William Li and Nio Power CEO Shen Fei drove the semi-solid-equipped ET7 from Zhejiang province to Fujian province, live streaming the trip online and covering 1044 km in 14 hours with approximately three percent battery charge remaining.

Despite driving at an average speed of about 84 km/h, lower than normal, Mr. Li’s long-distance trip still returned a frugal consumption figure of approximately 14 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Li also claimed that the Nio ET7 had been previously tested before the 14-hour trip, reaching 1,145 km on a charge, which would surpass the Lucid Air Unofficial Registration for the longest driving range on public roads, although the claim was not verified.

As Nio prepares to put the semi-solid state Nio ET7 into mass production, the Chinese electric car specialist is also developing battery changing stations that negate the need for traditional recharging.

Nio currently operates 1,360 battery swapping stations in China and another 13 in Europe, and plans to expand its service to the United Kingdom.
