The driver of the Ford Super Duty is seen lying in the back seat as the vehicle accelerates to 84 MPH on cruise control.

A Ford Super Duty driver has sparked controversy after posting a video on Instagram showing himself lying in the back seat of his truck while it barrels down the road at high speeds with no one behind the wheel. The Instagram user, @__c.crawford__, uploaded the video, titled “F450 driving alone,” showcasing the dangerous behavior of Cameron James (or Crawford), who appears to be relying on the vehicle’s automation features to drive itself.

The Ford Super Duty truck in question is a 2023 or newer F-450 Platinum Crew Cab, which does not come equipped with Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free automation technology. Instead, the truck offers basic assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping, which are meant to be used in conjunction with an attentive driver behind the wheel. Despite this, James has chosen to ignore these safety guidelines and put himself and others at risk by allowing the truck to drive itself without supervision.

While autonomous driving technology has made significant advancements in recent years, it is crucial to remember that current systems are not foolproof and still require human oversight. Ford’s BlueCruise system, for example, relies on a driver monitoring system to ensure that the driver remains alert and attentive while the vehicle is in control. However, even this technology has its limitations, as evidenced by two fatal accidents involving BlueCruise that are currently under investigation by federal authorities.

The irresponsible behavior displayed by James in the video is not only reckless but also illegal in many states. Some Tesla drivers have similarly disregarded safety protocols by attempting to trick their vehicles into driving autonomously, leading to fines and legal repercussions. It is essential for drivers to understand the limitations of automation systems and to prioritize safety over convenience when operating a motor vehicle.

In light of this incident, it is clear that more stringent regulations and enforcement are needed to prevent individuals like James from endangering themselves and others on the road. The ongoing investigations into Tesla’s self-driving claims highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the development and implementation of autonomous technology. Until concrete measures are put in place to address these issues, it is up to law enforcement and regulatory agencies to ensure that reckless drivers are held accountable for their actions.
