Porsche Confirms Debut of Long-Awaited 911 Hybrid

Porsche confirmed on Monday morning that the long-awaited Porsche 911 hybrid will make its debut on Tuesday, May 28. The introduction of the first road-going 911 hybrid has generated mixed reactions, with some welcoming the new addition and others expressing reluctance. However, one thing is certain – Porsche has put its new baby through rigorous testing to deliver a real 911.

According to the automaker, engineers and test drivers drove over 3,000,000 miles during the development and testing phases of the new model. The testing took place in various environments, from the bitter cold of the Arctic Circle to the scorching deserts of Dubai. Porsche subjected the high-performance hybrid to a variety of scenarios, including stop-and-go traffic situations for those planning to use the 911 for daily driving.

Frank Moser, Vice President of 911 and 718, stated, “For the first time in the 61-year history of our icon, we are installing a hybrid powertrain in a road-going 911. This innovative high-performance hybrid makes the 911 even more dynamic. We left nothing to chance during development and tested the new 911 in all types of conditions around the world. Whether under heavy transmission load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the toughest challenges with aplomb.”

The reported performance of the new hybrid at the Nurburgring is particularly impressive. Driver Jörg Bergmeister completed a lap of the famous circuit in just 7:16.934 minutes, which is 8.7 seconds faster than the corresponding version of the predecessor model. Porsche claims that the hybrid test car was equipped with road tires and a standard fixed-wing aerodynamic kit, which has been available as an option previously.

The lap time places the new 911 Hybrid about seven seconds behind the lap record for the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, also set by Bergmeister back in 2021.

Further details about the 911 hybrid will be revealed on May 28, and test drives of the vehicle will follow shortly after.
