Uber driver attacked near Target

A shocking incident recently took place near a Target store, where a Uber driver was brutally attacked by a knife-wielding assailant who intended to steal his car. The victim, identified as Omar, was left critically injured in the parking lot of the Target store located in Madison, Wisconsin.

According to reports, Omar was just starting his second shift as an Uber driver when he was confronted by a passenger who brandished a knife and demanded the keys to his vehicle. The attacker stabbed Omar five times in the right shoulder and side before fleeing in the stolen car. Friends and family set up a GoFundMe account to support Omar’s medical expenses and recovery.

Madison Police Lieutenant Jason Ostrenga described the incident as terrifying and concerning, as emergency services rushed to the scene to attend to the critically injured driver. Despite the severity of his injuries, Omar was eventually stabilized and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The authorities were able to locate the stolen vehicle in Racine County, where a high-speed chase ensued, culminating in the arrest of the suspect, identified as Antonio Rodgers, a 22-year-old individual. Rodgers faces charges of attempted murder, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and other related offenses, with a bail set at $135,000.

As Omar recovers from his injuries, his family is grateful for the outpouring of support and the timely intervention of law enforcement in apprehending the perpetrator. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by essential workers, like Uber drivers, in the line of duty.
