According to reports, AMG is currently seeking an electric competitor to rival the BMW XM.

Mercedes-AMG to Introduce Iconic Super SUV

Iconic super SUVs are becoming increasingly popular among luxury brands, and on Friday, it was revealed that Mercedes-AMG will be taking a page out of its main rival’s playbook and introducing its own version within the next two years. This new super SUV, while still unnamed, will be fully electric, unlike its competitors such as the BMW XM and Porsche Three-row electric SUV, codenamed K1.

The comparison to BMW’s controversial M car is justified as this unnamed SUV from Mercedes-AMG will reportedly not be based on any existing Mercedes-Benz model, unlike its popular SUV predecessors. It will have its own unique design and dimensions comparable to that of the XM. With the Bimmer weighing over 6,000 pounds, Mercedes-AMG is reportedly aiming for an impressive 1,000 brake horsepower (986 hp) to ensure that it performs as if it weighs much less.

The key to delivering that power will be axial-flux electric motors, similar to those found in mild hybrid supercars like the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren Artura. Mercedes-AMG has acquired YASA, a pioneer in commercializing axial-flux motor technology, and plans to implement these motors in their new super SUV. These motors are known for being power-dense for their size, with one motor generating up to 473 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The new Mercedes-AMG super SUV will also benefit from an 800-volt architecture built into the engine of the company’s next-generation AMG.EA platform.

In addition to the advanced electric motors, the new Mercedes-AMG super SUV will feature state-of-the-art four-wheel steering and torque vectoring, further showcasing Mercedes’ belief in the project’s potential. Despite the luxury market already being saturated with high-performance SUVs, Mercedes-AMG is confident that their new offering will stand out from the competition.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the demand for high-performance SUVs with track capabilities is also growing. While some may question the need for another six-figure SUV, Mercedes-AMG is confident that their new super SUV will surprise and impress even the most skeptical critics.

Ultimately, the success of the new Mercedes-AMG super SUV will depend on its performance and ability to deliver on the promises made by the company. As enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of this iconic new model, it is clear that Mercedes-AMG is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury SUV market.
