Bayern Munich and Sven Ulreich Open the Possibility of Contract Extension

Munich, October 20, 2023: The elite German football club, Bayern Munich, is planning measures to revamp their goalkeeper positions, given the advanced age of their key players. However, recent developments in their goalkeeper squad have opened the possibility of reducing the priority for this renovation.

The current situation of Bayern’s goalkeepers involves two prominent players, 37-year-old Manuel Neuer and 35-year-old Sven Ulreich. However, the strong performances of 23-year-old Daniel Peretz, who joined the team at the end of last summer’s transfer window, allow Bayern Munich to reconsider the renovation priority in that position.

Part of this is due to Daniel Peretz’s rapid integration and promising start in Munich. But another part is that neither the number 1 nor number 2 goalkeeper seems willing to leave the club in the short term. Neuer, despite a serious leg injury in December last year, is aiming for a return to peak form in time for next summer’s Euro Championship. Furthermore, Sven Ulreich’s contract, which expires at the end of the year, could be extended.

According to a report from Az, as captured by @AZ_Strasser, @Abendzeitung:

“Both Bayern Munich and Sven Ulreich are open to the idea of extending the goalkeeper’s contract until 2025, regardless of Manuel Neuer’s return.” [@AZ_Strasser, @Abendzeitung]

If all goes as planned, Bayern will be able to direct their financial resources to other areas next summer. This decision provides the necessary stability in the club’s goalkeeper position while allowing for further changes in Bayern Munich’s transfer plans in the future.
