Daniel Levy ‘furious’ when Harry Kane held ‘secret transfer talks’ with Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich intend to sign Harry Kane this summer, with it being claimed that manager Thomas Tuchel recently met with the Tottenham striker at his London home for transfer talks.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is furious with Harry Kane for holding transfer talks with Bayern Munich behind his back, it is claimed.

Kane, 29, wanted to leave Spurs during the summer transfer window but his options are limited. With Manchester United having decided to pull out and no other Premier League club emerging as potential suitors, a move abroad is currently the England captain’s best bet in his quest to finally win trophies and compete at the highest level.

Fortunately for Kane, Bayern are keen to sign him even after seeing their opening £60 million bid rejected by Levy and co. Now, it is reported that the Tottenham striker recently met Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel at his London home, leaving his chairman furious.

According to German outlet Bild, Levy was angered by the secret talks and intends to ensure that Kane remains a Spurs player for the new season, marking the final year of his contract. Bayern, however, are poised to come again with a better offer which is sure to test Tottenham’s resolve.

Levy has been trying to get Kane a lucrative new contract that would ensure his long-term future at the club, but the 29-year-old has no intention of renewing. That means Kane could walk for free next summer and leaves Levy powerless to stop him from leaving.

As he did so successfully in 2021 to stop Spurs talisman joining Manchester City, Levy’s best hope is to get Kane out of his move, with Bayern having indicated that €100m (£85m) would be too much.

“I think the transfer is absolutely crazy,” Bayern board member Uli Hoeness told the Munich-based newspaper Abendzeitung. “He’s a great player, no doubt about it, but it’s an amount I would never pay as president.”

Tottenham have rejected a £60 million bid from Bayern Munich for Harry Kane

Later speaking to Sky Deutschland, Hoeness explained: “I am one of nine members of the supervisory board who have a say on the executive committee in terms of big spenders of over €25m (£21m). I can imagine it, one day, a player would go to Bayern for around €100 million, but I have already given my opinion on the Kane case.

“He is almost 30 years old and last year, Tottenham turned down a €160 million bid from Manchester City. I said it would be crazy for Bayern to approach a transfer like that.”

“I will give my personal opinion. I am one of nine and if the other eight say he will be bought, then he will be bought. That is how it is in a democracy.”

Kane himself has been tight-lipped about his future, having been asked on the final day of the season if anything had changed in his situation due to increased speculation.

“No, no. It’s part and parcel of being a footballer – especially when you are at the top of your game,” he told BT Sport.

“I’ve just been focused on this season and trying to help the team as much as possible. To score some goals today was good, to finish like that but overall I’m just looking forward to a good break.”
