Early Look at 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan Interior Prior to Anticipated Late-2023 Unveiling

Volkswagen is set to unveil its highly anticipated third-generation Tiguan model later this year, with showroom deliveries in Australia expected to begin at the end of 2024. The popular midsize SUV will come with a range of new features and design updates, as previewed in a set of teaser images released by the German car giant.

One of the standout features of the upcoming Tiguan is its interior, which has been showcased in the teaser images. The cabin will sport a larger 15-inch infotainment screen, a significant upgrade from the current 9.2-inch display. Additionally, the digital dashboard will be bigger, measuring 10.25 inches. This larger and more immersive infotainment system is expected to enhance the overall driving experience for Tiguan owners.

Another notable change in the third-generation Tiguan is the relocation of physical buttons onto the steering wheel. Volkswagen has decided to return to physical buttons, abandoning the controversial touch-sensing controls that were introduced in 2019. The touch controls received criticism for being difficult to use while the driver’s attention is focused on the road. However, the touch controls will still be present at the base of the Tiguan’s infotainment screen.

In line with the shift to a more modern and streamlined design, the gear selector in the 2024 Tiguan will be transformed from a traditional lever to a ‘switch on the steering column’. This switch, similar to the ones found on certain Mercedes-Benz models, will activate the ‘Drive’ mode when pushed forward and ‘Reverse’ mode when pulled back. The electronic parking brake will also be activated through a button on the end of the lever.

When it comes to performance features, the new Tiguan will come equipped with a vehicle dynamics management system. This system will incorporate electronic differential locks (XDS) and optional adaptive suspension known as DCC Pro, allowing for better control and handling on the road.

While specific engine options for the Australian market are yet to be confirmed, the new Tiguan is expected to undergo a major overhaul in terms of engine choices. The current model is sold with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol and turbo diesel engine. However, it is likely that the new Tiguan will offer a wider range of engine options, including hybrid variants. Volkswagen Australia has expressed interest in introducing the Tiguan plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which could offer up to 100km of electric-only driving range.

The world unveiling of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is scheduled for the end of 2023, with European deliveries expected to begin early next year. In Australia, the first deliveries to customers are planned for the third or fourth quarter of 2024.

Overall, the third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is set to offer a more advanced and enhanced driving experience compared to its predecessor. With its larger infotainment screen, physical buttons on the steering wheel, and improved performance features, the new Tiguan aims to raise the bar in the midsize SUV segment. Customers in Australia can look forward to getting their hands on this highly anticipated model in the near future.
