Eurovision Song Contest Adopts “United by Music” Slogan Permanently Following Success in Liverpool

The Eurovision Song Contest has officially declared that its “United by Music” slogan, introduced for the 2023 contest held in Liverpool, will become a permanent fixture for all future competitions. The decision was confirmed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), expressing excitement about the continuation of the slogan that was initially conceptualized by the BBC for this year’s event.

The EBU, in collaboration with Swedish broadcaster SVT, emphasized that the slogan’s enduring presence signifies the enduring impact of music in fostering unity among people globally. The announcement comes in the wake of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest hosted in Liverpool, where Sweden’s Loreen emerged victorious. The 2024 edition is slated to take place in Malmö next May.

Highlighting the significance of the decision, the EBU mentioned that a distinct slogan had been utilized at the Eurovision Song Contest each year since 2002, with the exception of 2009 when no slogan accompanied the event. The adoption of “United by Music” is seen as a move towards creating continuity and consistency for future contests, bringing a sense of coherence to the event’s messaging.

Martin Österdahl, the event’s executive supervisor, expressed enthusiasm about the decision, stating, “After over 20 years of using different slogans, and as we approach our 70th anniversary, we feel we have found one that truly encapsulates our brand.” He added that by establishing a permanent slogan, there will be a unified message emphasizing the power of music to unite people. The chosen slogan aligns with the event’s values of inclusivity, equality, universality, and the celebration of diversity through music.

Österdahl concluded by stating, “As the popularity of the Eurovision Song Contest continues to grow around the world, we believe using the same slogan annually will help our brand become even stronger.” The decision to maintain “United by Music” is poised to bring a sense of consistency and reinforce the Eurovision Song Contest’s identity as a platform that transcends cultural boundaries through the universal language of music.
