Hollywood is in mourning today as iconic actor Treat Williams has passed away at the age of 71. Williams, who was best known for his roles in Everwood and Hair, was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident that ultimately claimed his life. The news was confirmed by Williams’ agent of 15 years, Barry McPherson, who expressed his devastation at the loss of a beloved friend and client.

“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off,” McPherson said in a statement. “I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented. He was an actor’s actor. Filmmakers loved him. He’s been the heart of Hollywood since the late 1970s. He was really proud of his performance this year. He’s been so happy with the work that I got him. He’s had a balanced career.”

Williams got his start in the film industry with his debut role in the 1975 movie Deadly Hero. He quickly made a name for himself, taking on more roles in films like The Ritz and The Eagle Has Landed. However, it was his performance as George Berger in the 1979 musical Hair that earned him his first Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year – Actor.

In 2002, Williams landed his first series-regular role as Irv Harper on the popular drama Everwood, which ran for four seasons and cemented Williams’ status as a beloved actor in Hollywood. He later starred on the TV Land sitcom The Soul Man alongside Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash, which ended its five-season run in 2016.

He was widely regarded as a versatile and accomplished actor, and his passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him best.

Late last month, Williams paid tribute to his co-star John Beasley, who had passed away in May at the age of 79. “My dear friend John Beasley has passed,” Williams wrote on Twitter. “His narration gave Everwood its soul.
