Fast and Furious spin-off featuring Dwayne Johnson is in the works.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced that his character, Luke Hobbs, will be returning in a new spinoff film set in the Fast & Furious franchise. The news broke via The Envelope, followed by a post from Johnson on his personal Twitter account on June 1, 2023. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the announcement has ignited excitement among fans of the long-running franchise.

In his tweet, Johnson revealed that the new spinoff film will be a Hobbs-exclusive movie and will sit between the two parts of the upcoming Fast X. This effectively turns Fast X into a three-parter, something that Universal has hinted at during the movie’s lengthy trailer period. However, for those skeptical of such a move, Johnson joked, “If you thought splitting the seventh Harry Potter movie and the final Harry Potter book into a two-part cinematic epic was a great idea, then three full movies are worth your time.”

Despite the exciting news, some fans may question how much of a movie can be made solely about Johnson’s character, but the star reassured fans that they won’t be disappointed. “This film is going to be a must-see for both hardcore fans of the franchise and newcomers alike,” he said.

Another intriguing aspect of the announcement was Johnson’s line about his relationship with co-star Vin Diesel. “Last summer, Vin and I put the past behind us,” Johnson said. “We will lead with brotherhood and determination, and will always take care of the franchise, characters and fans we love.” The tweet seemingly squashes any rumors of drama between the two stars and indicates that they have reconciled and are ready to make more “brainless cinema” together.

As to what else fans can expect from the upcoming film, only time will tell. For now, fans can celebrate the return of Johnson’s character and look forward to the next installment in this beloved franchise.
