IHG Hotels & Resorts Partners with Apple to Launch AirPlay in Hotel Rooms

IHG Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s largest hotel companies, has announced that it will soon launch AirPlay in hotel rooms in collaboration with Apple, allowing travelers to securely share content from their iPhone or iPad to their room TV. AirPlay will begin rolling out to select IHG hotels globally before the end of 2023.

IHG’s commitment to improving the guest experience is evident in the collaboration with Apple. Once AirPlay is available in hotels, guests will scan a unique QR code on their in-room TV to easily enjoy a personalized entertainment experience. Travelers can stream, control, and share videos, photos, music, and more from their iPhone or iPad to the big screen. George Turner, the spokesperson for IHG, expressed excitement about the partnership.

“Working together with Apple to introduce AirPlay to our IHG Studio platform later this year marks another important milestone in our ongoing commitment to improving the guest experience,” said George Turner. “This technology will provide seamless connectivity and personalized entertainment options. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, our guests can now enjoy the convenience of streaming directly from their iPhone or iPad to our in-room technology, creating a home-away-from-home environment like never before.”

IHG Studio, launched in 2019, has transformed the in-room guest experience by offering a range of entertainment, communication, and streaming functionalities. By incorporating AirPlay, the company continues to seamlessly integrate technology into the customer experience.

IHG recognizes the growing demand for enhanced entertainment options, with 85 percent of American households having at least one streaming video subscription. With AirPlay, guests can continue watching their favorite shows and movies right where they left off and not worry about remembering to sign out of their account when they leave.

The partnership between IHG and Apple follows other hotel companies’ ventures to provide new tech-forward solutions for their guests. For instance, Marriott has partnered with Samsung to roll out IoT Guestroom Lab rooms across a select number of hotels for a trial period. Hilton has also unveiled a new feature through its app, allowing guests to use their smartphones as room keys.

IHG believes the incorporation of AirPlay technology will provide more personalization in room entertainment and increase guest satisfaction. The company is committed to ensuring that technology is an integral part of the overall guest experience.
