Johnny Depp Donating Amber Heard’s $1 Million Settlement to Charity

Johnny Depp will be donating the $1 million debt paid to him by ex-wife Amber Heard to five different charities. According to TMZ, the money is being split up evenly across the organisations which tackle causes particular to Depp: aiding sick children with life-threatening illnesses, providing housing for historically disenfranchised communities, preserving ecosystems and natural environments globally, and helping indigenous communities keep their culture and heritage intact across the Americas.

The five charities that will receive the $200,000 each are the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, the Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

Make-A-Film is similar to Make-A-Wish, but grants children’s wishes from people within the film world, including actors, directors, and more. Johnny has reportedly done a short film with them in the past, so that’s why he’s selecting them on his shortlist.

The Painted Turtle and Tetiaroa Society, on the other hand, are homages to heroes in Depp’s life, Paul Newman and Marlon Brando respectively, as each star was instrumental in these charities’ founding and success over the years. Depp is making these donations to continue their legacies, respectively.

Red Feather and Amazonia, meanwhile, are all about helping indigenous communities keep their culture and heritage intact all over the Americas (North and South) by providing shelters and sanctuaries for individuals and large-scale infrastructure projects to protect villages.

Depp has always maintained that he wasn’t out to break Amber’s bank but to restore his name and reputation. Amber recently paid the $1 million she owed Depp as part of her settlement following a defamation trial in the US. As reported by TMZ, in light of the cash, which was covered by Amber’s insurance company, Depp is keen to donate the money to charity.
