Leah Messer Speaks Out About Her Enormous and Expanding Debt: I’m Determined to Get It Under Control!

Teen Mom Star Leah Messer Faces Over $700,000 in Debt

Leah Messer, a veteran Teen Mom star, has found herself in a financial predicament, owing over $700,000 in debt, including a new tax lien of $290,297 by the IRS. The lien was a result of unpaid federal taxes for 2018, 2020, and 2021, which brings her total debt to about $780,000.

Messer has clarified that she is not out, but rather down, and she is taking steps towards clearing her debt. She explained that she has worked with various accountants over the years, and that she initially paid more taxes than she was making. Later, she paid other people to handle the tax situation, but she ended up stalling. In 2020, the pandemic caused the IRS to get backed up, and things only got worse.

Messer acknowledges that she did not grow up making the income she makes now, and she did not have the guidance she needed to handle money responsibly. She wants others to learn from her experience, and she encourages people to take financial courses in high school or college.

The MTV personality and employee makes well into the six figures, and there is a possibility that Messer could get her own Teen Mom spinoff. She shares twin daughters, Ali and Aleeah, with ex-husband Corey Simms, and she has a daughter, Addie, with second ex-husband Jeremy.

Messer is optimistic about clearing her debt, and she has connected with an amazing accountant and tax attorney. Her hope is to bring awareness and wisdom to her platform, advising the next generation of women in her family and encouraging them to make healthy financial planning choices.
