Maximizing Google Maps: Saving Locations Offline and Online

Every time I park in Barcelona, I save the location to avoid losing the car, as sometimes it can take a while until I need it again. This is just one of the many features that Google Maps offers, and here I will explain step by step how to use it.

Although this function is not new, it is still incredibly useful for our daily lives: the ability to save locations in Google Maps. Whether you are an inveterate traveler or urban explorer looking for new restaurants, or simply someone who wants to remember the location of a special store, this feature is perfect for everyone. The goal is for users to mark places they discover by chance and want to visit in the future, organize their favorite spots, or plan detailed travel routes.

This feature is especially useful when planning a trip. Imagine having all your stops, accommodations, and attractions saved in lists that are easily accessible with just a tap. But the usefulness of saving locations goes beyond travel – it is also great for organizing ideas, remembering local points of interest, or creating personal guides with recommendations for friends and family.

The process of saving locations is simple on both mobile devices and desktop. On your phone, you can find the location, tap to see more details, and select “Save.” On the desktop, the procedure is similar, with the added convenience of a larger screen. The interesting part is the customization of lists, where you can name them as “Favorites,” “To Visit,” or any title that suits your purpose.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to save locations on Google Maps:

On Mobile Devices (Android/iOS):
1. Open the Google Maps app.
2. Find the location you want to save using the search bar or by selecting it directly on the map.
3. Tap the location to open its information card.
4. Press the “Save” button on the information card. You may need to scroll to find it.
5. Choose an existing list or create a new one by tapping “+ New List.” Customize it with a name, description, and choose an emoji for the icon.
6. Optional: Add notes about the location if you want to remember specific details.
7. Confirm the saving of the location by tapping “Done.”

On Desktop:
1. Open Google Maps in your favorite web browser.
2. Find the desired location using the search bar or by clicking on the map.
3. Click on the location to open its information card.
4. Select the “Save” button located on the information card.
5. Choose an existing list or create a new one by selecting “New List” from the drop-down menu.
6. Save the location in the list of your choice.

Once the locations are saved, they can be accessed in the “Featured” section if you placed them there, or in the “Saved” section at the top of the screen.

Overall, the ability to save locations in Google Maps is a handy tool for organizing your travels, explorations, and everyday experiences. So next time you find a place you want to remember, make sure to save it on Google Maps for easy access in the future.
