Palestine Shows Interest in Getting Closer to China After Disappointment from the US

Palestine is disappointed with the stance of the United States government, led by President Joe Biden, in responding to Israel’s violations, including the recent attacks in Jenin City.

According to Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, his country is increasingly inclined to turn towards China, which could offer a new ray of hope. Furthermore, Maliki considers that the US has failed to fulfill its promises.

“Three years have passed since President Biden’s promise, but we haven’t seen anything concrete apart from financial support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and hospitals in East Jerusalem,” stated Maliki, as quoted by Anadolu.

Palestine has also repeatedly accused the US of siding with Israel and displaying bias in the stalled peace process between the two nations.

Maliki mentioned that Palestine is now placing more hope in China. This is because the Bamboo Curtain country supports Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations (UN).

“China is not only striving to enhance its economic presence but also its political influence in the Middle East. Many countries in the world seek China’s support, as it has become a significant global player,” he said.

“There is no peace process in the Middle East. If that were to happen in the future, why shouldn’t China be involved alongside other nations?” added Maliki.

Furthermore, Maliki also discussed recent normalization efforts between Israel and Saudi Arabia. He hoped that Saudi Arabia would uphold its stance of the two-state solution as a condition for normalizing relations with Israel, including supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

“We hope that Saudi Arabia will maintain its position and not succumb to any pressure. We want Saudi Arabia to listen to us, the rightful owners, and to engage in dialogue with us regarding this issue,” Maliki stated.
