Spice Girls Set to Grace Commemorative Stamps for 30th Anniversary

If you’ve ever wished to post a letter with a touch of “Girl Power,” here’s your chance. Royal Mail is set to release a collection of 15 stamps commemorating the 30th anniversary of one of the world’s most iconic pop groups – the Spice Girls.

This marks the first occasion where Royal Mail dedicates an entire stamp collection to a female pop ensemble, signifying the monumental impact the Spice Girls have had on global music culture.

The Spice Girls, comprised of Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisholm, and Melanie Brown – fondly known as Baby, Posh, Ginger, Sporty, and Scary Spice – united in 1994 and became a global sensationzzzzzz.

The ten principal stamps showcase captivating images from their performances spanning 1997 to 2012, including memorable moments at the Brit Awards in 1997 and the spectacular closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Among these, Victoria Beckham takes center stage during The Return of the Spice Girls Tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 2008.

Geri Halliwell-Horner, immortalized in her iconic Union Jack dress at the 1997 Brit Awards, receives a stamp of her own. Known as Ginger Spice at the time, she made headlines by sharing a kiss with then-Prince Charles at a charity event for the Prince’s Trust that year – an image forever etched in the collective memory.

An additional five stamps, featured on a miniature sheet, showcase individual images of the band members from the Spice World photoshoot.

Following the release of their chart-topping debut single “Wannabe” in 1996, the Spice Girls triggered a global phenomenon known as “Spice mania.” In total, they secured nine UK number one hits, including classics like “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “Viva Forever.”

This exclusive stamp collection places the Spice Girls in an elite group, making them only the sixth music ensemble to be honored with a dedicated stamp issue. They join the ranks of iconic bands such as The Beatles (2007), Pink Floyd (2016), Queen (2020), The Rolling Stones (2022), and Iron Maiden (2023).

Expressing their excitement, the Spice Girls stated, “We are thrilled to be celebrated by Royal Mail alongside some of the most iconic and influential music legends.zzzzz

David Gold, Royal Mail’s Director of External Affairs and Policy, emphasized the enduring impact of the Spice Girls, not just in the realm of music but across various facets of life. He stated, “The Spice Girls have been a force to be reckoned with since they formed as a group in 1994. We are proud to celebrate the most successful female music group ever seen.”
