Tempest with Intense Winds and Hail

Severe Storms Threaten the Northeast

A storm with intense winds and hail is approaching, putting weekend plans in danger from the Midwest to the Northeast of the United States. According to AccuWeather meteorological forecasts, on Sunday, a narrow zone of intense storms, windy and severe, will unleash across several states, extending from the Midwest to the mid-Atlantic region.

A new storm is expected to move eastward from the Midwest to the northeast of the country on that same day. Although the aerial coverage of the storm may not be extensive, its impact will be felt with more rain during the second half of the weekend. The more concerning aspect is the probability of severe thunderstorms in certain places. This storm will follow a course along the northern edge of a warm-up zone over the central US.

Drivers traveling on affected roads, as well as those outdoors, should be prepared for possible delays and seek shelter as storms approach. The main threats will come from severe thunderstorms with wind gusts reaching 50 to 60 mph. Some of the strongest storms could also produce golf ball-sized hail and even give rise to an isolated tornado, according to the news outlet cited.

In the event that this cold wedge weakens quickly, there is the possibility of strong storms crossing parts of New Jersey and southeastern New York, potentially including the New York City area, during Sunday night, according to AccuWeather. Additionally, at least some showers are expected to persist on the upper Mid-Atlantic coast and in southern New England on Sunday night, which could complicate travel back home. This same weather configuration may cause intermittent showers, even when thunderstorms do not reach severe levels or when there is no thunder or lightning.
