Terrion Hicks, a three-star defensive back, commits to Northwestern.

Northwestern secures commitment from Terrion Hicks

Northwestern University has secured a commitment from Terrion Hicks, a three-star defensive back from Lexington, Kentucky’s Frederick Douglass High School. Though the Wildcats offered Hicks during the summer of last year, the team’s interest in Hicks never wavered.

During his official visit with Northwestern University this past weekend, Hicks made it official by giving Northwestern head coach, Pat Fitzgerald, his verbal pledge while on campus. This visit to Evanston marked the fourth time Hicks had been on campus – and he added a memory he’ll never forget.

“The weekend was really eye-opening and getting to talk to the players was really what helped me make my decision, along with being around the other recruits on the official visit. I had told Coach Fitz and he was really hyped about it,” Hicks said.

Hicks added that he appreciated the Northwestern players’ welcoming attitudes and how they pressed him to get to know him and see what type of player he was. His host, Braden Turner, and one of the team’s quarterbacks were the most welcoming and they showed Hicks that he could fit in with the team despite not being from the same state as most of the players.

As a talented defensive back, Hicks believes that Northwestern is the right fit for him because the coaches still believed in him even after the departure of former cornerbacks coach Ryan Smith. Hicks expressed his appreciation for coach LaMarcus Hicks and defensive coordinator David Braun, who he was able to get to know more during his official visit.

Hicks says that he likes the idea of being able to play both corner and safety, as Northwestern coaches see him fit to play both positions. Hicks also believes that playing more safety this year will help the team figure out where he would fit best within their defense.

While he wasn’t planning to commit before his official visit, throughout the weekend, Hicks knew it was the right fit for him as he was able to connect with coaches and players and really felt like he belonged.

With Hicks’ commitment, Northwestern secures a promising defensive back with potential to excel on the field.
