The only thing missing from the Toyota Crown was some fender skirts and a roof rack.

Toyota Introduces Off-Road Version of the Crown in Japan

The Safari car craze that has captured the automotive world in recent years shows no signs of slowing down. Automakers have been transforming a wide range of vehicles from sports cars to everyday crossovers into off-road versions, with varying levels of success. Toyota, a leading manufacturer in the industry, has now joined the likes of Porsche and Lamborghini by converting one of its road models into an off-road vehicle – the new Toyota Crown Landscape.

While currently only available in Japan, the Toyota Crown Landscape is making waves with its unique design and features. It may not be as extreme as models like the Porsche 911 Dakar or Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, but it offers a refreshing take on off-road capability in a familiar package. The Crown Landscape can best be compared to offerings from Honda’s TrailSport line or Subaru’s Wilderness stable, providing a balance of practicality and adventure.

The Toyota Crown is already a standout in its own right, with its unique blend of sedan and crossover features. The Crown Landscape takes this concept a step further by adding off-road enhancements such as fender flares, roof rack, and a mild suspension lift of 25 mm. The vehicle rides on custom 18-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, giving it a rugged yet refined look.

In terms of aesthetics, the Crown Landscape features new fender moldings with a hand-painted Gori Gori Black finish. The car is finished in Urban Khaki paint with black accents, giving it a distinctive and bold appearance. Toyota also claims that the fenders provide added protection from off-road hazards while enhancing the overall presence of the vehicle. Functional upgrades include a tow hitch and rear fog lights, adding to the vehicle’s versatility.

The Crown Landscape is powered exclusively by a 2.4-liter hybrid powertrain, delivering power to all four wheels for enhanced traction and capability. This model will be offered as a limited edition in Japan, priced at ¥6,850,000 (approximately $45,200). Customers can also opt for an additional roof rack accessory, priced at 44,990 yen (about $296). While there is no confirmation of a US release, the popularity of off-road vehicles in the American market suggests that the Crown Landscape could find a welcome reception.

The Toyota Crown has always been a vehicle that defies categorization, with a range of versions spanning sedans, crossovers, SUVs, and even pickup trucks. The decision to give the Crown an off-road makeover is in line with Toyota’s commitment to offering diverse options for its flagship model. Inspired by the Toyota Crown Outdoor Concept seen in 2023, the Crown Landscape combines practicality with adventure in a distinctively Japanese package.

As the Safari car trend continues to gain traction globally, the introduction of the Toyota Crown Landscape adds a unique and compelling option for off-road enthusiasts. With its blend of practicality, performance, and style, this off-road version of the Crown is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Whether it’s navigating city streets or tackling rough terrain, the Toyota Crown Landscape offers a new perspective on what a crossover can be.
