Four-star defensive back Timothy Merritt talks top schools
By Brandon Howard, National Recruiting Analyst, Rivals.com
Birmingham (Ala.) Parker cornerback Timothy Merritt is a versatile defensive back that could play multiple roles on the next level. Merritt has really taken off since this spring earning a number of offers. One of the key elements Merritt brings to the table is his ability to come down and cover a slot receiver or hybrid tight end. His work ethic is another key aspect of his profile that really stands out. Merritt is also a fundamentally sound tackler and brings a certain toughness on the field.
Merritt recently took the time to speak with us about the schools he’s considering. “I’ve narrowed things down to 12 programs,” Merritt said. “I’m considering all of them equally at this point and plan on committing to the best situation for me.”
The 12 schools that Merritt is considering are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas. These schools are all interested in what Merritt has to offer and see him as a versatile, well-rounded player who could have an impact at the college level.
Although Merritt hasn’t set a timetable for making his decision, he did have some positive things to say about some of the schools on his list. “I really like the coaching staff at Georgia and Michigan,” Merritt said. “I also like the tradition and winning culture at Alabama and Ohio State.”
Merritt is also considering the academic offerings at the schools he’s interested in attending. “I want to make sure that I get a quality education,” said Merritt.
