Using RFID Tags, This Retailer Aims to Improve In-Store Clothing Shopping Experience

River Island, a fashion retailer with 250 stores in the UK, has integrated digital solutions, including radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, sensors, video displays and data analytics to improve the shopping experience for customers. By giving each product a unique reference number using an RFID tag, the company can recognise items in smart fitting rooms, allowing customers to view product information and request a different size without leaving the room. Snowflake’s Retail Data Cloud powers the initiative, and RFID tagging performance analysis is used to influence product investment and store layout design. River Island’s RFID commitment is unusual and is aimed at benefiting customers and business results, according to the company’s CIO, Adam Warne.
