The Unexpected Loss of a Hispanic Rescuer: Yanaisa Milagro Pulido

The unexpected loss of a Hispanic rescuer has caused an uproar and touched sensitive fibers in the community. Yanaisa Milagro Pulido, a true heroine, left this world after she died while rushing to assist the injured in a multiple car collision on Interstate 95, in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida.

Yanaisa’s friend, Dayami Apaulaza, wrote, “All Yanaisa wanted to do was help people and save lives,” on a fundraising page. Yanaisa, who is of Cuban descent, bravely decided to abandon her car and help the victims of the accident, tragically losing her life in the process.

The tragic event occurred at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 11th, when a 2019 red Kia Forte crashed into a concrete median, blocking two center lanes. Several other drivers collided with the car, resulting in a tragic scene involving six vehicles and leaving three people injured, including Yanaisa’s companion and a seven-year-old child.

While assisting the passengers of a trapped Mercedes, Yanaisa was fatally struck by a car that failed to stop in time. She did not receive first aid and died almost instantaneously from her injuries as a result.

“At just 23 years old, Yanaisa had made a remarkable journey as a rescuer, serving as a fire cadet and paramedic from 2017 until 2020,” recalls her friends and colleagues. Her dedication to helping others and her kind-hearted nature have left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

As messages of farewell pour in, it is clear that Yanaisa’s impact on the community has been profound. Her death will be commemorated with posthumous acts and honors on February 15th. The outpouring of love and support showcases the enduring legacy of a young woman who dedicated her life to helping others.
