Report: Margot Robbie to Produce a New Film Based on ‘The Sims’

Margot Robbie is bringing The Sims video game to the big screen as a producer for her production banner, LuckyChap, following the success of her adaptation of Barbie. The Sims, which was first released in 2000 and is one of the best-selling computer games of all time, is set to be adapted for a film under Robbie’s production company, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

LuckyChap, which Robbie runs with her husband Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, will team up with Vertigo Entertainment and Electronic Arts, the original publisher of The Sims game. Director Kate Herron, known for her work on the Marvel series Loki, will direct the project, with a screenplay co-written by Herron and Briony Redman.

The Sims, developed by Will Wright after the success of his city-building simulation game SimCity, allows players to build custom houses and control the lives of the people living in those houses. The game has been compared to Barbie in that it lacks a predefined storyline, but with the right creative team, Barbie was successfully adapted into an Oscar-winning billion-dollar blockbuster.

The Sims franchise has been immensely successful, with three sequel games, numerous expansions, and over 200 million copies sold. Despite initial development starting in 2007, plans for an adaptation were put on hold and then canceled after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019.

As of now, there is no official release date for The Sims movie, but fans can anticipate the beloved game coming to life on the big screen in the future. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project.
