Viral TikTok Shop Deleted, Elon Musk Calls TikTok Civilization-Damaging

Tesla and Twitter CEO, Elon Musk, has expressed his opinion about the existence of the social media platform TikTok.

The world’s richest individual stated that TikTok’s presence could damage civilization. Musk made this prediction through a tweet in June 2022.

“Is TikTok destroying civilization? Some people think so. Or maybe social media in general,” Elon Musk tweeted.

Not without reason, Elon Musk argued that social media has brought about trends that make its users experience FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

Instead of quality trends, Musk seemed to suggest that most TikTok content promotes foolish trends. This is what Musk is concerned about regarding the decline in the quality of human civilization in the future.

On the other hand, TikTok has generated various controversies worldwide. Most recently, Indonesia has requested TikTok to separate its social media from their e-commerce platform.

Combining the two is considered a market monopoly. Prior to Indonesia, several countries around the world have also had issues with TikTok.

Not only have they requested the separation of features, but TikTok has been outright banned in some countries. The reasons are nearly the same, mainly related to cybersecurity concerns.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Federal Communications Commission have warned that ByteDance could share TikTok user data with China’s authoritarian government.

Here is a list of countries that have banned TikTok:

Afghanistan
Australia
Belgium
Canada
Denmark
India
European Union
Austria
Netherlands
Estonia
France
New Zealand
Norway
Somalia
Taiwan
United Kingdom
United States
