Corey LaJoie’s crew chief declares Carson Hocevar a “generational talent” for the upcoming 2024 NASCAR season.

NASCAR Driver Carson Hocevar Set to Kickoff Rookie Cup Season

Twenty-year-old Carson Hocevar, hailing from Portage, Michigan, is gearing up to start his first full-time season as a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series. The emerging young talent has earned a promotion from the Truck Series to the Cup Series and will be behind the wheel of the #77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports this season.

Spire Motorsports has placed their trust in Hocevar’s racing abilities, having observed his potential while racing as a part-time driver with Legacy Motor Club and in one race with Spire last year.

In an interview with NBC Sports, Ryan Sparks, the crew chief for Corey LaJoie and Spire’s director of competition, expressed high regard for Hocevar, labeling him as a standout talent among the younger generation of drivers. Sparks specifically highlighted Hocevar’s debut race at Gateway, where the young driver exhibited exceptional skills, even managing to overcome a brake failure and climb from 26th to the top 15 in the first stage of the race. Although Hocevar ultimately finished in 36th place, Sparks emphasized the uncommon nature of his performance, indicating Hocevar’s potential as a generational talent.

Carson Hocevar gained valuable experience last year, making nine Cup Series starts primarily with LMC. His performance during these races was notable for consistently keeping the cars clean and contending for top-10 finishes. Hocevar’s most impressive finish was an 11th place at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Having proven his capabilities on the track, Hocevar expressed his self-assurance in a recent statement. The young driver emphasized that he has nothing to prove to anyone in his rookie Cup season, asserting that he has already demonstrated his ability to compete with his heroes and gained the confidence of his team. Looking ahead, Hocevar highlighted the importance of focusing on executing to the best of their potential as an organization and a race team.

NASCAR fans will have the chance to witness Carson Hocevar in action as the 2024 Cup season kicks off at the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum on February 4th. With the support of Spire Motorsports and the confidence in his own abilities, Hocevar is poised to make a significant impact in his inaugural full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series as he continues to develop as a driver.
